The Strand – Condo Project Planned on Whitaker Bayou

the strandDeveloper JEBCO Ventures plans to build a 116-unit condominium with boat slips on Whitaker Bayou. Called The Strand, the project will contain three buildings and 47 boat slips at 1889 N. Tamiami Trail.

Two phases are planned: 76 waterfront units, followed by 40 garden/pool view units.

Prices will start in the low $500,000s.

JEBCO says the project will offer waterfront living and proximity to downtown.

“This is a place for people that want it all – from active lifestyles to arts, culture and entertainment to the perfect location,” company chief executive Jim Bridges said in a news release. “The convenience of your own private boat slips make it stand out.”

Hoyt Architects has designed the units in coastal contemporary style. Amenities include swimming pool, fitness center, dog park, boardwalk and a kayak/paddleboard launch area.

Commercial and residential developers, JEBCO’s other recent Sarasota projects include the 180-room Embassy Suites & Spa on the Trail, the 41-townhome The “Q” on Ringling Boulevard, and a proposed 162-room Hampton Inn on Fruitville Road.

Whitaker Bayou
One of Sarasota’s most notable locations, Whitaker Bayou is the location of Sarasota’s earliest settler, William Henry Whitaker. Here, Whitaker built a cabin, married and raised 11 children. He was the first to grow citrus commercially in the state and cleared the path that would eventually become the Tamiami Trail.

Home to exclusive Whitaker’s Landing, a gated enclave of exquisite waterfront homes and newer Tocobaga, this west of trail location offers some of the best of luxury waterfront living.
