Conde Nast Traveler just ranked the fifteen best food cities in the country and Sarasota made the list. Sure, we're number 14, but considering our size (and the places we were up against) that's a huge win for a town that has always punched above its weight when it comes to fine dining. Of course, it was Conde Nast's annual Reader's Choice survey, so we get a leg up on many spots since so many people from so many different places visit our area and might be inclined to vote for their favorite vacation spot after enjoying a piece of fresh fish on the sunny, waterfront docks of Cortez or a farm-to-fork feast on the courtyard of Indigenous in Towles Court. Sarasota has a habit of filling its trophy case, and its latest accolade comes from its ability to fill stomachs. Sarasota came in as the top city in Florida, ranking at No. 14. Palm Beach, at No. 15, was the only other Sunshine State city listed. Charleston, South Carolina, ranked No. 1 followed by New Orleans at No. 2 and New York City at No. 3. The list praises Sarasota for its “technicolor sunsets and thatched-roof daiquiri bars.” Conde Nast also gives shout-outs to Indigenous, 239 S Links Ave., for its mushroom bisque garnished with truffled rye croutons, and C’est La Vie, 1553 Main St., for its crêpes and fresh croissants.
